To anyone wondering about the next generation, one veteran had a suggestion: visit 700 North Tuckahoe Road and meet the students at Williamstown High School.
After the October 14 Honor Flight visit, Marine Corps League veteran Joe Donahue took the time to write to Principal Christine Stanton, thanking our students and staff for a day he said he would never forget.
He described how many of the veterans had tears of joy as they walked through the hallways and gym. For some who served in Vietnam, the welcome at WHS was especially meaningful. Their homecomings years earlier had been painful, and he explained that the kindness they experienced at our school helped ease hurt they had carried for a long time.
Our students may not have realized how much their actions meant to their guests. We wanted them, their families and their teachers to have the chance to read these words.
Reflecting on the kindness and respect he witnessed, he wrote:
“I don’t know what you are teaching over there, but you need to package it up, and spread it across this country of ours.”
Thank you to our students, staff and everyone who helped welcome our guests. We’re proud to share this letter with our Monroe Township families and neighbors.
